First, who doesn’t love NYC? Sure, it is a little insane, but honestly, I LOVE NEW YORK (if you haven’t noticed.. insert monkey covering mouth emoji). There’s just something about it, don’t you think? It is one of my very favorite places! As soon as I saw this tee, I knew I had to have it. I love the deep burgundy color, the graphic, and of course the words “NYC is for lovers” cause it’s true. Although, the best part about this tee is that it’s only $29!! Linked here.
I’m also crushing on cardigans hard this season. They can be the perfect finish to any outfit! I linked some (inexpensive) similar options as well as some of my favorites below.
These shoes are everything. Who else is obsessed with Gigi Hadid? They are the perfect blend of classic, preppy, and Rock/edge. I linked these and some similar, less expensive options below.
I want to get to know my followers a little more so I figured I would start by taking the opportunity to introduce myself and answer a few FAQ:
1. My name is Megan, but everyone calls me Meg or Meg Ricks which is where my blog name came from, my family calls me Gigi or Meggy.
2. I live in Utah. Everyone thinks I live in NYC because I lived there for a photography internship and dance for 4 months. But, I am in fact based in Utah. I’m a very frequent NYC traveler though, I’ve been there twice in the last few months and am headed there again next month!
3. I am a dancer and have been since I was 3 years old! I competed very competitively from 6th grade on, and spent my summers dancing in NYC (I know the city very well haha). Then danced on my college Dance Team, my college contemporary company, and now perform with a professional company called Soul Escape. Some of my dance dreams are to make Rockettes, Perform with a contemporary company, SYTYCD or DWTS, tour with a convention, and teach/choreograph around the world – but I’d take the nation.
4. I travel frequently and love it with my whole entire heart!! I feel so blessed to have seen so much of this beautiful world and hope to see more and more! I love seeing new places, experiencing new culture, trying new food, getting lost in pretty places, and truly wandering. Follow along as I travel to Jerusalem for 4 months come January 11th!
5. No, I do not have kids, and no I am not married! I have 5 older siblings, all married, 4 with kids, 9 nieces and nephews, and 12 very strong opinions (Having 5 siblings + in laws + parents makes for a lot of “moms” ;). But, I’m honestly obsessed with my family. They are my very best friends, the best examples, and my greatest cheerleaders. Spending time with them is one of my favorite past times. I post pictures of and with my nieces and nephews a lot because I love them so much, but no they are not mine. They call me Gigi so if you see #aunt gigi you now know why!
6. I go to school at Brigham Young University, studying photography with a dance minor. I graduate in April and am very torn as to how I feel about it. I’m excited and scared all at the same time. Let me know if you ever need pictures done.
7. I started this blog about 4 years ago and have loved every second of it. It allows me to share my life, be creative, artistic, Share my love of fashion, life, travel, beauty, photography, and all things Meg. I really try to be an influence for good and an advocate of self love. I love all the people i’ve got to meet and work with throughout this process and hope to meet more!! So please, I would love it if you left a comment and introduced yourself!
These are just a few of the questions I often get, but i’d love to get more! Send in your questions and I’ll try my best to answer all of them!
This is the month to give thanks, be with loved ones, wear cozy sweaters, drink apple cider, eat pumpkin pie, and get ready for the holidays. I love this time of year way too much!! I honestly am so happy around the holidays, borderline giddy. With the holidays around the corner, there are always so many events, gatherings, and parties. I always struggle knowing what to wear to holiday parties so, over the next couple months i’ll be sharing some of my favorite holiday outfits as well as party ideas, gift ideas, and so on. Stay tuned!
I seriously am loving this skirt. It’s 15% off too! I’ve worn it to two different events in different ways (once like this, and the other with a Maroon blouse, leather jacket, a top knot, black tights, and some tan booties. I’ll post it soon). I just think it’s so versatile and could be worn in so many different ways. It also comes in Petite, regular, and Tall which makes it perfect for any body type. Although, I do recommend sizing way down, I ordered two sizes smaller than I would normally wear. I linked this skirt as well as some other cute holiday options below.
This Jacket is everything this season. It’s chic, warm, and oh so stylin. I’m obsessed. I’ve also been eyeing some similar (gorgeous) options linked below.
Hi lovelies! Fall in Utah has been unbelievably pretty this year!!! I just can’t get enough pictures, or canyon drives. Often when reflecting on the beauty of this world I feel so much gratitude, love, and peace. God has created such a beautiful world that I can’t help but feel thankful for. So today, I just wanted to share some of the things i’m most grateful for.
My family is something I am so grateful for. I may be biased but, I’m pretty sure I have the greatest family in the entire world. We are all so different with different strengths and weaknesses that truly bring us together. Not to mention the greatest parents who brought us all together. My parents, siblings, in-laws, as well as nieces and nephews are the most important things in the world to me. I couldn’t be more grateful for each and every single one of them for all they do for me, teach me, and the examples they are to me (they set the bar pretty high for me and whoever it is I marry.. being the youngest of six can be a lot of pressure, but I wouldn’t have it any other way).
The gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am privileged to be a member of the Mormon church. It is the greatest blessing to my entire life. I love the joy, the hope, and the peace that it brings to me. Having a loving Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ and being able to Know and Pray to Him for strength, guidance, and repentance, is the greatest blessing of all. He has a plan for each and every single one of us, He loves us, watches over us, protects us, and truly wants what is best for us. Sometimes it is hard to trust in His plan but if we seek his guidance, do what he has asked of us, and pray humbly for his help, He will always be there for us and honestly, I couldn’t think of a better thing to have in life. Life is so hard, full of ups and downs, but with his loving hand, it is a whole lot easier and for that, I couldn’t be more grateful.
I’m grateful for the people in my life. People are the most important thing. I always want the people around me to be one of my greatest priorities. As my dear friend, @Kaitlynoelle recently said, “Life is so fragile and my goal is to live a life being genuine to myself, being kind to every person I come in contact with, loving more + deeper, and serving others no matter how small the service may seem. I’m not perfect, not even close but nothing matters more than how we treat others. And I want to make that count.” How we treat the people in our lives and around us is far more important than anything we could ever do or become in life.
The incredible opportunities I have been able to have throughout my life. I’ve been blessed with a very hard working and smart Dad who made it his goal to provide incredible opportunities for his children. I love that man and all he and my mom have done to provide these opportunities for me. I love that he taught me the value of hard work and where that principle can take you. Some of the opportunities include, dance, travel, education, and so much more. I have danced since I was 3 years old and i’m so grateful for it and all that it has taught me, helps me to feel, grow, and develop as a person as well as a dancer. Dance has always been so important to me. It’s a part of me and makes me so very happy. There was a lot of time and money sacrificed so that I could have the opportunities I have. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to gain an education at Brigham Young University. It took a lot of hard work and late nights to get into this school that I love so dearly and I feel so blessed to be here. I don’t think I even take enough advantage of the education I am gaining but I know what a blessing it is to have and want to indulge in it as much as possible. I also had the opportunity to dance on BYU Cougarettes, do 2 (almost 3) study abroads, do an internship in NYC, travel the world, do humanitarian work in Panama, and so many other incredible blessings and opportunities that I am so grateful for.
I’m grateful for the beauty of the world, my friends, a body that is healthy and strong, a mind that is capable, a heart that is full and loving, and a life that is good. No matter how hard our lives may get, there is always something to be grateful for. I think it’s when times are the hardest and days are the worst that we have the most to be grateful for. If we look for the good and the blessings in our life, it always seems to be just a little easier, and life is happier. In honor of the upcoming holidays, I’m working on something super exciting for the month of November and I cannot wait to share it with you so stay tuned!!
I’m also very grateful for my readers. Doing this blog has been a hard, ongoing process that would never be possible without any of you. I am so grateful! Thank you for your words of encouragement, love, and constant support. I truly appreciate it with all of my heart!
FYI Talbots new line has some really really good finds. Check it out!
I am loving Plaid this season. Does everyone remember the movie Clueless? I used to watch it all the time, I loved it! “As if!”.. anyone? I always wished I could dress like her and have her rotating closet where she would pick her outfits on the computer? So cool. Anyways, this skirt is a blast from the past because it reminds me of that movie and something she would wear. I’m kind of a ‘preppster’ at heart – this plaid mini made all my preppy dreams come true. It’s perfect for Fall paired with this white tee, or this long sleeve version (both are 25% off!). It would also be cute with some over the knee boots, tights, a tan sweater, and some red lips for the holidays. Although I love this skirt there are SO many cute plaid skirts I’m crushing on this season. I found tons of similar and less expensive options that I linked below!
Who doesn’t love a good denim jacket as well? I’ll be honest.. I have like 4 different denim jackets, all a different color and fit. But, I wear all of them and each is perfect for pretty much any occasion, any time of the year. To me, a denim jacket is a staple. Every girl needs at least one in their closet! Below are some of my favorites, all under $75!
I am LOVING this Fall weather. It is honestly my very favorite time of the year. I love the colors, the leaves that are starting to change, the crisp air, pumpkin patches, pumpkin spice, homemade chili + cornbread, apple picking, all the fun Fall things! I feel like there’s so much to do. My sister made a list of some fun things to do during this time of year that I wanted to share with you here..
Go to the Pumpkin Patch, make caramel apples, Football games, Corn-belly’s (if you’re in Utah), Leaf Peeping, Canyon Drives, Homemade donuts, Apple picking, and of course getting your costumes ready for Halloween! I’m hoping I can even take a trip to Disneyland and see all the cute Halloween decor, or Boston (have you ever been to Beacon Hill at Halloween time? It is unreal! So many cute decorations.).
This post is coming to you from one of my favorite areas in NYC, the FlatIron District. It’s so Iconic New York. There’s so much to do in this area. I love that I can walk over to Madison Square Park, sit on a bench, enjoy the view, some people watching (people fascinate me), and maybe a bite to eat from Shake Shack. Or I can head further downtown and enjoy the AMAZING shopping that surrounds this area. I can also pretty much try any type/price of cuisine my heart desires, including Eataly, The Little Beet,Sweet Green, or a $5 slice of pizza from NYC Big Slice. New York has it all, and that’s what I love about it!
These Jeans are my new found love. While roaming the city a couple weeks ago, we went in to Jcrew to try on a couple tops (this one included). I was wearing a dress and needed something to wear on bottom. A sales associate told me if I tried on a pair of their jeans i’d get 20% off my purchase so, of course I obliged. However, the second I pulled them over my legs, I was completely sold. I’ve never worn such comfy jeans in my life. I even wore them on the airplane home (which is saying something bc I am a leggings or sweats kind of a traveler).
These jeans are high waisted, come in petite, regular, or tall length and literally fit like a glove. I’m not a huge boyfriend jeans kind of a girl, but these ones are slimming while still giving you a more slouched look. I’m SUPER picky about my jeans too – My jeans have to be high waisted, hit at just the right spot on my stomach, long enough (I am 5’11”), tight, but not too tight, and still be flattering all at the same time. These hit my every requirement! I got a size 28 but usually wear a 27. I wanted them a little on the baggy side so I got a size bigger but, they fit pretty true to size. They do give a little so keep that in mind as well. Plus, they are currently 30% off so, now is the perfect time to shop.
Hi lovelies. Happy Monday! This weekend was one of my favorites because I got to listen and learn from to my church leaders in General Conference. Anddd we had a bomb brunch. My mom only makes this breakfast 3x a year. It’s complete with homemade cinnamon rolls, sour dough pancakes, baked scones, “fritters” as we like to call them, eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice.. the works. It was delicious. Also, the leaves have started to change in Utah, so we drove through the canyon to see all the Fall colors. It was honestly unreal!!! I have never seen it so vibrant in my life. I love this time of year so so much! Anyone else do something fun over the weekend??
Thank you so much for stopping by. Have an amazing week!
Hi babes! As I’ve said before, this year, I got to go to New York Fashion Week. It was dreamy. We attended a few shows, a RewardStyle party, a Like to Know it rooftop party, some fun events, shopped with Topshop and Rag and Bone, and pretty much had a party the whole time. If you have been following me for a while, you know how much I love New York City and how often I am there. In fact, I grew up going to the city for dance every summer, I also had the amazing opportunity to live there last summer and intern with a fashion photographer. So, to be honest, I’m a pretty great travel guide when it comes to NYC, remember my NYC Travel Guide post? Well I’m gonna give you an even better one, so look out for that! Today I wanted to talk a little about the RewardStyle party and tell you more about Like to Know it.
The RewardStyle party was in the Lower East Side, which was fun because I haven’t explored that area very much. It was in a gorgeous penthouse, with quite a few levels as well as rooftop access. Everyone was super nice and inviting which was good, because I was slightly nervous and maybe even a little intimidated. I got to meet with tons of different bloggers and influencers, watch a virtual reality fashion show along side Vogue Editor and Chief, Anna Wintour, take lots of pictures, see a beautiful view of the entire city from the floor to ceiling windows as well as the rooftop. It sort of felt like a dream, hence the spin (my go to excitement move.. never grew out of that one and I never will). After the party we headed to the Like to Know.it Wall to take some pictures. You’ve probably seen me and a lot of other influencers post a liketoknow.it link in our Instagram posts. Well, I wanted to explain a little bit more about liketoknow.it. Like to know it is just a simpler way to shop my outfits from each post. Instead of having to always come to my blog in order to shop, Like to know it will send you a link directly to your email inbox to shop the things I post. So, all you have to do is sign up here, like my posts, and bam, you’ll have direct links to shop my outfits. It’s super easy and convenient. Give it a try and tell me what you think!
And for my little thought today, I think it is so important to stay true to yourself. As I learned this summer with Soul Escape, “Don’t edit yourself”. You are who you are for a reason, you are special and unique especially when at events where it would be easy to get caught up in the glamour, be stay true to who YOU ARE. Like me and my spins, yes people were watching and probably thinking I was acting too giddy and immature, but it’s who I am. Be genuine. People are drawn to someone who is confident in who they are. I just feel really blessed and really grateful that I was invited to these events and that I got to attend. I’m a big believer in making your dreams come true, and living the life you have always imagined. I’m a “dream big” kind of a girl. I try to go after the things I want with all my effort because, “Reach for the Moon and land somewhere along the stars” and “work hard, be nice to people” are my mottos. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to, be yourself, believe you can achieve, and go after what you want!
I am so grateful for all of you, especially if you read this whole thing! Thank you.
This September I had the opportunity to attend New York Fashion Week. This has been a lifelong dream of mine. I am beyond grateful that I finally had the opportunity to go! My, oh so talented, photographer, assistant, fellow New York obsessor, and best friend Macie came along with me which made it even better. If i’m being honest, we had to try so hard to keep our cool and not act like giddy little girls. While at Fashion Week, we attended a few shows, some RewardStyle events, the Like to Know it party, and had some really exciting meetings.
Macie and I grew up together as dance sisters as well as shopping partners in crime.. we have issues, depending how you look at it. It felt surreal to now be going on work trips with her. It’s like I blinked and all of a sudden we were old enough to be doing something like this (I’ll talk more on fashion week later). We found some serious clothing gems out in the city and I can’t wait to share them with you. This outfit is the first.
After attending the RewardStyle penthouse party, we stopped by Rag and Bone to find these gorgeous high-waisted, light wash, pink stitched jeans. Mace and I died the second I put them on. But, once I Paired them with this white tee, we were sold. I couldn’t wait to put the whole outfit together and roam the city. As we head in to colder weather, add the jacket, maybe even a sweater, switch the shoes and you’d be good to go for the upcoming Fall season.
Although these are my new favorite jeans, I do realize they are a little spendy. So, I wanted to give you a few similar, less expensive versions here, here, here, and here
Today was my LAST first day of school at Brigham Young University!! This morning I cried because i’m so sad it’s almost over and also because i’m excited and can’t believe the end is in sight. I’ve worked so hard, learned more about myself, life, and the things that really matter in the past 4 years, than ever before. I can honestly say, I am not the same girl I was when I first stepped foot on campus (and not just because i’m no longer 18 haha). Which makes me super grateful.
Looking back, life seemed so easy, which is probably why people say to me, “enjoy these relatively care-free years of your life”. But, one more semester, and a study abroad later, I will be done with “those years”. It makes me nervous but also excited. Just like they say in Finding Neverland, why do we have to “grow up” and take life so seriously? Why can’t life always be “relatively care-free” if we make it that way? It’s easier said than done. Especially because back when I first entered BYU the most important things to me were how cool people would think I was, would people want to be my friend? What would I major in, what and how many boys liked me, how many dates I went on, how well I did in my ballet class that day, and making sure I was hitting perfect pirouettes for Cougarettes. I’m not gonna lie, I still worry about those things but, 4 years later, I don’t care as much to impress people, or what anyone thinks of me. I love who I am and feel very confident in myself and my capabilities. I also try to take myself a little less seriously. Life is too short to be so stressed about what people think of you and how many people are gonna like you. Plus, if someone doesn’t like you, it is their problem, not yours! It’s so much more important to take into account how you make people feel, do you make others happier and more alive by being around you? Are you kind, loving, a hard worker, do you love yourself and others, are you happy? Do you twirl around in the mountains in a ruffle dress just because it makes you feel happy? (guilty). Those are the most important things in life and I feel very blessed to have learned that over the years at BYU. I’m proud to say, I am a much better person today than I was 4 years ago. So, here is to growth, my last semester, giving my all, and making the rest of my life just as fun and “carefree” as it is now.
Go do yourself a favor, buy this dress, twirl around, and remind yourself that no matter how dark life may get or seem, it can always be made fun, “carefree”, and oh so happy. It is simply a choice. Choose happiness.
